Antique Brown and Blue Seven Stars Quilt, c1910
Antique Brown and Blue Seven Stars Quilt, c1910
This quilt shows its age, but still retains a primitive grace, with muted tones of browns and blues in a highly coveted pattern.
MATERIALS
The quilt is constructed in the Seven Stars, or Seven Sisters, pattern - blocks of seven touching stars set in white fabric. A variety of madder brown, indigo blue, gingham, and even red and brown paisley are used. Binding is a pink and white pinstripe fabric, machine finished. Hand quilted in white thread in echo quilting and small three-petal flowers throughout. Lightweight cotton batting.
CONDITION
Fair antique condition. Significant fabric loss and exposed batting, with dye bleed throughout. Large brown discoloration in right lower quadrant. Heavy wear along the binding. Scattered stains visible on the back. Because of extensive staining and storage odors, this quilt did require a gentle soaking and air drying. It is still a lovely quilt for display or stacking.
AGE
Exact age and maker unknown. Estimated date of construction c1910 based on fabrics used. Found in Kansas.
