An unusual color combination makes this classic pattern sing in 1870s fabrics.
MATERIALS
The quilt is constructed in the Double Irish Chain pattern in overdyed green and butterscotch double yellow printed calico. It is hand pieced and quilted in white thread in hanging diamond grid, with a few places quilted in brown thread. Binding is matching overdye green. Tan muslin backing. Lightweight cotton batting.
CONDITION
Good antique condition. A few areas of color lift in the orange fabrics, with some fading and lift in the green.Some toasting visible on surface front and back. Otherwise clean and intact. It has not been washed due to concerns over dye stability but is free of odors.
AGE
Exact date unknown. Based on fabric and technique, estimated date made is circa 1870. It came from a private quilt collection in Kansas City, MO.

Measures 88" x 60".
