Antique Original Square in a Square Variation Quilt, c1910

This quilt is a delight for triangle and fabric lovers - an original design in an unknown pattern.

MATERIALS

The quilt is in an unknown, possibly original pattern based on Square in a Square, with grey plaid squares on point surrounded with repeating borders of triangles. Look at the close up photos to see that the sashing is made of carefully pieced triangles.

Border and sashing are in light green print. Patchwork is made of indigo, burgundy, gingham, and shirting fabrics. Hand quilted in white thread in Baptist fan pattern. Knife edge binding in matching green fabric. White muslin backing. Lightweight thin cotton batting.

CONDITION

Fair vintage condition. Overall tanning to white fabrics. One small hole to back of binding. Staining along center fold line in backing and some stretching along center noted. Small original mend on back. It has been carefully hand washed and air dried. Please review photos carefully and ask for more if needed.

Exact age unknown. Likely made circa 1910 based on fabrics used. From a private collection in Kansas City, MO.
