Vibrant farmhouse-style primivite quilt in strong primary colors and feedsack backing.
MATERIALS
The quilt is in the Sunflower pattern, with a flower set inside am 8-point star. Red sashing with blue gingham blocks. Early printed calicos used, including homespun plaid, mourning fabrics, and shirting fabrics of tiny prints on white ground. Hand quilted in Baptist fan pattern with white thread. Hand bound from back to front. Backing is butter yellow muslin with faint feed sack printing. Medium weight cotton batting, giving it a cozy heft.
CONDITION
Good vintage condition. Scattered storage stains, especially on the back. Some mends and small holes noted in backing. Hand quilting is naive, with some loose threads and double stitching visible in the front. It has not been washed. Please review photos carefully and ask for more if needed.
AGE
Exact age unknown. Likely made circa 1910 based on fabrics used. Originally found in Tennessee and reported to be Amish in origin by the original owner.
