Antique Red and Green Basket Quilt, c1920

Available is a beautiful basket quilt with expert hand quilting in excellent condition. This collector's-quality quilt is a beautiful example of American folk art.

MATERIALS

The quilt is constructed with solid white, solid red (possibly alizarin), and small green overdyed print fabrics. Rows of baskets in red and green are set with two squares on point between each basket. Border of the green fabric on all 4 sides. Excellent hand quilting in white thread throughout, with feather wreaths in the alternate blocks and hanging diamond grids elsewhere. Machine pieced. Hand bound in coordinating gren print fabric. Lightweight cotton batting. White solid backing fabric.

CONDITION

Excellent antique condition. Pencil marks on quilting lines still visible. Fabric is tight and intact with no signs of wear. A few storage stains and light toning visible along fold lines in back. It has not been washed.

AGE

Exact age unknown. Estimated age c1920 based on fabrics and techniques used. Maker unknown. Found in Kansas.
