Vintage Red and White Tents of Armageddon Triangle Pattern 1930s Quilt, 82" x 72"
Vintage Red and White Tents of Armageddon Triangle Pattern 1930s Quilt, 82" x 72"
A visually stunning display of expert craftsmanship, this red and white quilt is a beautiful collector's piece. It was found in southeast Kansas. The pattern - called Tents of Armageddon (see Brackman #3150; also Thousands of Triangles and Ocean Waves) - is a repeating pattern of half-square triangles in red and white, with parallel grid quilting set at a diagonal to the patchwork.
MATERIALS
It is constructed with red and white solid cotton fabrics. The hand quilting is done in white thread at 12 stitches per inch, set in parallel lines across the quilt 1/2" apart. It is hand pieced and machine bound from back to front. Thin cotton batting makes this a lightweight quilt.
CONDITION
Overall excellent vintage condition. One pinhead size age spot on the front and one small loose area of binding. Some mild thinning of the batting seen in the back. This quilt has been given a sun bath only.
AGE
Exact age unknown. However, based on fabrics and techniques used, estimated date is circa 1930.
SIZE
82" x 72" - modern twin size, or perfect to use as accent blanket on a larger bed or couch.
