Vintage Emerald Green Shoofly Quilt, Plaid Shirting Fabrics, Feather Hand Quilting, c1930s, 82" x 67"

This gorgeous handmade vintage quilt in impeccable condition is ready for your quilt collection or bedroom decor.

The shoofly pattern is simple and easy to find, but the quilter took it up a notch by arranging the patchwork in an offset diagonal layout, with heavy feather quilting curving its way around each block. It was acquired from the estate of a quilt collector in southeast Kansas who kept it in excellent condition.

MATERIALS

The quilt is made in the Shoofly pattern. Nearly every block uses plaid fabrics, except for a single block with black and white floral print. The setting fabric is an emerald green solid cotton. Heavy feather hand quilting is done in white thread at 10 stitches per inch. The blocks have parallel line quilting, and the border of the quilt has diamond grid quilting. The binding is hand applied with matching green fabric. The backing is solid white muslin. It has lightweight cotton batting. It is hand pieced.

CONDITION

Excellent vintage condition - there are no rips, tears, loose seams, or stains noted. It has been carefully hand washed and air dried. There are pencil marks from the maker visible on the white fabric.

Exact age unknown. Based on quilting techniques and fabrics used, estimate date is circa 1930s.

SIZE

Measures 82" x 67" - a modern twin, or perfect size as an accent blanket.
