Available is a rare vintage etching - "True as Steel" - by artist Jackson Lee Nesbitt. This piece, an etching on paper, depicts a rugged industrial worker in overalls before a background of manufacturing equipment. Nesbitt's signature is visible in the bottom right corner of the artwork, as well as a penciled annotation: "True as Steel - The Butler Mfg. Company Spirit."

This artwork is matted in a wood frame under glass. The backing paper is in good condition and a wire hanger is present. A sticker on the bottom back of the frame reads "Beth Phillip Botanical Illustration and Custom Framing." Small white mark on the left side of the frame. Minor hole in the backing paper near the bottom. Overall good vintage condition.

Jackson Lee Nesbitt (1913-2008) was an American artist whose work was inspired by his rural upbringing in the Midwest. He studied at the Kansas City Art Institute and was a protégé of Thomas Hart Benton. In the 1930s, Nesbitt created a series of etchings depicting scenes from the steel industry. Commissioned by Sheffield Steel, he was the only artist willing to sketch in the unpleasant steel mill conditions. This work was the beginning of a successful career.

As abstract surrealism grew in popularity in the following decades, Nesbitt turned to commercial work, not wanting to change his style. He enjoyed a resurgence of popularity in the 1980s with the reprinting of a 1955 etching. The series of prints created during this time resulted in several prestigious exhibitions. Today, Nesbitt's art is showcased in many museums around the U.S, including the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art in Kansas City, Missouri.
