Vintage 8 Pointed Star Quilt with Signature and Printed Sashing, c1940
Vintage 8 Pointed Star Quilt with Signature and Printed Sashing, c1940
This is a quilt to make you smile, with brightly colored prints and an unusual floral fabric sashing - as well as a touching memento signed by the maker.
MATERIALS
The quilt is constructed with eight-point stars in alternating fabrics, set in white and surrounded by a streak of lightning sashing made with bright red and blue floral feed sack fabric. An unusual design, as most sashings are made with solid or white fabrics. Take time to look at the different prints, including sail boats and geometric designs.
It is hand bound with the same sashing fabric. Backing is white muslin. Medium weight cotton batting.
One corner of the backing has handwriting in cursive that reads - "Handmade and quilted by Maggie Evans, mother of Mildred Henson."
CONDITION
Good vintage condition. One small tear in the binding. Dye run visible on several stars in the backing only; see photos. The quilt has been carefully hand washed and air dried.
AGE
Not dated. Estimated date of production circa 1940 based on fabrics used.
SIZE
Measures 76" x 64".
